Video games have been an incredible part of my life since I was young. I've been playing them since I was at least 3 years old. I grew up with everything from NES to the original Xbox. I still collect games and systems I may decide to make a list of everything I own.
My favorite games of all time are:
My passion for 'mechanics-first gameplay' :
I am extremely passionate about making games that put mechanics and cohesiveness first. That isn't to say that I dislike story-driven games or games that are less focused on the mechanics, but the games I love to make are driven by 'mechanics first gameplay'.
When adding a new feature to any game I create, I always have to ask myself if it fits with every other mechanic. There must be a reason for it's addition, and that reason cannot conflict with any other previous systems.
Games like the Dark Souls series perfectly meld the idea of 'mechanics-first gameplay' with good atmosphere, story, and graphics. The combat in Dark Souls is almost flawless, becoming arguably better with each new addition to the series.
It is those kinds of games that I would love to make. I love making games in general, but I love implementing new and exciting mechanics.
